A shocking tackle in the Honduras top flight left commentators horrified and upset.
CD Marathon suffered a 1-0 defeat to league leaders Olimpia in Liga Nacional. Despite the obscurity of the Honduran league, the match attracted worldwide attention due to a violent double-tackle that occurred just moments after Kevin Lopez’s 84th minute winner.
Marathon defender Andre Orellana was shown a straight red card for his crunching challenge on two players. Footage which has since gone viral on social media shows Orellana chasing a loose ball before deciding to fly in late, with studs showing, into opponents Carlos Pineda and German Mejia.

The 21-year-old managed to completely wipe out both players, who fell to the ground holding their legs. The pair could have easily seen their legs snapped by the ferocity of the challenge, but for a timely jump.
Before they had even landed from the impact, the referee could be seen brandishing his red card. Such was the dangerous nature of the tackle that the commentators could even be heard offering a disgusted response.

One commentator was heard saying: “Ohhhh no. No, no no,” before adding a few more ‘No’s’ for good measure, while the others voiced their astonishment.
Orellana said the incident was “part of football” but apologised for his actions after the final whistle, telling DIEZ: "The truth is I was wrong and I apologise to everyone, you are human and you learn from mistakes.
