French amateur team in 6th tier go absolutely crazy as they draw PSG in the cup

The magic of the cup is alive and kicking in French football judging by an amateur side’s reaction to drawing Paris Saint-Germain.

Little-known US Revel, who play in the sixth tier, have advanced to the last 64 of the French Cup after seeing off Blagnac on penalties. As a result, they were pitted into the draw against the country’s big-hitters with the likes of PSG, Marseille, Lille and Lyon entering the competition.

As non-league sides do in the UK, players and officials gathered at the club to watch the big draw unfold. And they got exactly the side they wanted after being paired with Kylian Mbappe and co at home

The players were filmed as they watched the draw and there was silence as they saw it unfold. There were cheers as Revel were given a home draw before another brief period of silence again as they held their breath.

When PSG’s number emerged, the players went absolutely wild, jumping around, hugging each other and chanting. There also appeared to be a few tears of joys as the gravity of the tie and the impact it will have on the club, based in the south-west of the country, sunk in. The tie will take place over the weekend of January 7, the same time as FA Cup third round weekend in England.

Revel were formed as Revel Sport in 1910 before merging with Amicale Sportive Reveloise in 1926 and becoming Union Sportive Reveloise (US Revel for short). They have played in regional amateur football ever since

PSG, meanwhile, are one of the richest clubs in the world thanks to their Qatari backing. Luis Enrique’s side lead Ligue 1 by four points from Nice after beating Nantes 2-1 at home thanks to goals from Bradley Barcola and Randal Kolo Muani.

The much-anticipated cup tie could be one of the final chances to watch Mbappe in French football, with the World Cup winner continually linked with a move to Real Madrid following his contract standoff with PSG last summer which saw him briefly frozen out by the club before being welcomed back into the first-team fold.
