Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai compared to Ronaldo as he scores in Carabao Cup

Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai earned comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo as he opened the scoring against West Ham in the Carabao Cup.

Szoboszlai found the breakthrough at Anfield on Wednesday (December 20) night in some style. The Hungarian midfielder let fly from outside the box in the 28th minute.

His effort flew past two Hammers defenders and Alphonse Areola in goal, nestling into the bottom left corner. As the replays were shown on Sky Sports, Reds legend Jamie Carragher was reminded of Ronaldo.

“You see that movement, it’s almost Cristiano Ronaldo-esque the way that he hits the ball," said Carragher as he analysed Szoboszlai pulling his right leg back and bending it at the knee before pulling the trigger.

The strike also earned praise in the studio at half-time, with another former Liverpool player in Jamie Redknapp commenting: "It’s a thing of beauty, a ferocious strike.

Where does Szoboszlai rank in the signings of the summer? Let us know in the comments section.

"West Ham are actually in a position to break quickly, they don’t get it right and once it falls to Szoboszlai, there is nothing else in his mind apart from getting that right foot on it.

"It is such a unique strike of the ball and this is almost the modern way of moving it with no back lift and he just hits it like an arrow into the corner – the strike gives the keeper no chance."

Szoboszlai has firmly established himself in Jurgen Klopp's first XI since his £60million summer arrival from RB Leipzig, where he won two German Cups and registered 44 goal contributions in 91 games.

The 23-year-old hasn't yet been as influential on the scoresheet in England, but does now have four goals and three assists to his name this season and has been widely hailed as one of the signings of the summer.
