Four Man Utd dressing room leaks as Ten Hag blamed by players

Onana enduring sluggish start to Manchester United career

Manchester United fans have grown concerned over the volume of leaked information entering the public domain. The Premier League side have endured several crises in recent months, but a huge amount of behind-the-scenes stories end up in the media.

Express Sport takes a look at four leaks over the last few years.

Players upset with Ten Hag

This week, it emerged that stars reportedly believe Ten Hag has ‘favourites’ within the squad. According to the Manchester Evening News, some players harbour suspicions that they are picked on more than others and that some of their supposed preferred colleagues are free from criticism.

It is the latest in a long line of leaks from the club, an issue that long pre-dates Ten Hag’s time in charge. Last summer, CEO Richard Arnold was filmed telling a group of supporters that two members of staff suspected of leaking information had departed Old Trafford.

However, information that Ten Hag would rather not enter the public domain continues to be aired. The Dutchman is facing the strongest scrutiny of his tenure so far, having won just one of his last five matches and overseen several off-field problems.

Dressing-room row

Reports that some players have an issue with Ten Hag come less than a week after it was leaked that four players were involved in a heated dressing-room row. According to the Sun, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay were at the centre of a ‘bust-up’.

Fernandes apparently confronted McTominay over his performance following the 3-1 defeat against Brighton last weekend. Centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof were reportedly also at odds over their respective displays. However, the club were quick to dismiss these reports.

Ronaldo’s captain request

Issues around leaks pre-date Ten Hag’s reign. Cristiano Ronaldo was at the centre of many stories during his ill-fated second spell at Old Trafford.

In one of the rumours, ESPN reported that the veteran striker demanded Harry Maguire be stripped of the captaincy and he be awarded the armband himself. It came following the caretaker appointment of Ralf Rangnick, who Ronaldo went on to slate in his fiery infamous interview with Piers Morgan last year.

Rangnick denied the request and the pair went on to share a challenging relationship during their six months together.

Martial and Gore ‘square up’

Another reported bust-up came in November 2022, just prior to the Qatar World Cup. It was claimed that Anthony Martial was left far from happy about a tackle during a training session.

Reports said that Ten Hag was holding a session for players not called up by their national teams for the mid-season World Cup. A mix of first-team players and academy stars joined in, with Martial part of the group.

Martial was reportedly left furious about a tackle by midfielder Dan Gore and angrily confronted the teenager, who has since played his way into Ten Hag’s first-team plans.
